EXO Silver

Our classic iteration of the EXO, made of 100% surgical-grade stainless steel with a striking matte finish, state-of-the-art investment-cast handles, industrial grade precision ground blades and a CNC machined screw or bolt – all assembled by our master craftsmen at our facility in Sheffield, using techniques and skills developed since 1760.

EXO Gold

Using high-tech vapor deposition to offer a single layer of ceramic coating, these scissors feature a surface harder than tungsten carbide, which in itself is twice as tough as steel, with the added bonus of being seriously beautiful. Ceramic coating is regularly used to extend the life of drill bits, but for our scissors it has the added benefit of a stunning gold-coloured finish that will never wear away.

EXO Black

With a distincitive and attractive black ceramic finish, ergonomic handles and razor sharp blades, the EXO Black are the highest professional-quality shear you can buy with a phenomenal sleek and sophisticated appearance.

EXO Spectrum

Finished with another high-tech vapor disposition hard coating; the same ceramic contained in sapphires, rubies and emeralds. This helps to protect the blades and also provides a stunning refractive and iridescent surface.

EXO was conceived in 2015 by our lifelong scissorsmiths and company directors Jeremy and Sally Ward (née Whiteley). Inspired by a visit to the Advanced Manufacturing Show in Birmingham UK, they envisaged an innovative new way to manufacture scissors.

The initial inspiration came from our Wilkinson tailors’ shear range, the original design patented by our very own ‘Master Cutler’ Thomas Wilkinson in 1800. This has evolved and developed over the years as we have honed our craft; EXO pays homage to this design.

We have also incorporated the ‘bolt’ element of our professional shear range, which allows for a speedy and smooth ‘pick up’ and ‘put down’ motion – as well as adding an eye-catching styling cue.

We spent a long time ensuring the handle shape was the most ergonomic and comfortable it could possibly be, with 3D-printed components generated from the digital data.

Offering the perfect combination of style and performance, the EXO range comes in a selection of finishes for you to choose from.

“There are a number of stages involved in the creation of a pair of jeans. This includes but not limited to design, materials & the tools used in the construction.

I believe that when you use high quality and beautiful tools you do not only create a better product, but you are also honouring and embedding a dignity in the garment. Cutting with my Wilkinson EXO shears elevates my construction to a level where the beauty and art are not just in the finished product but are present throughout the entire process. The EXO’s make me feel like I’m creating something that is meaningful.”

“I used to prefer a seriously big, heavy shear for cutting the cloth for our bespoke garments. Mostly because being able to fit all fingers into the handle means having optimal control, or so I thought. But I wanted to try EXOs mostly because they look great and I’m a sucker for beauty.

Also, I thought it was a great move for a company to re-invent a long-established product, to make it even better, so I ordered a pair.

The moment I held the shears for the first time they became my instant favourites. Their perfect balance, the unyielding sharpness of the blades AND the understated good looks all make me happily say goodbye to big and heavy. They truly are the best shears I ever had the pleasure to use.”

“I received the EXOs with a personalised engraving from my husband. It was the best gift ever!

I work with natural fabrics, mostly with linen and wool. Nowadays, when everything is about being faster, here is where the time stops! Shears made by William Whiteley & Sons are timeless, exceptional quality, versatile and a pleasure to work with. When every millimetre counts you can rely on the precision of EXO Shears to deliver the finest cut.”

“I’m so delighted with how my EXO Gold shears perform. In my industry, it’s really important to have the right shears. They are perfect for cutting through all the different cloths we use, from lightweight summer suiting’s, such as linen, to heavier weight tweeds we use for sports jackets and shooting suits.

The EXO Gold shears are super lightweight with such a great design. I never want to put them down! Perfection! I would definitely highly recommend them.

“I bought EXO Silver shears as my very first pair of professional shears, and I must say I am really happy with them. Affordable, well sharpened and beautifully designed, I cut every fabric I use with them. I would definitely recommend these shears to get you off to a good start in tailoring.”

Eva Clarkson

“I treated myself to some EXOs for my final year of university whilst studying Bespoke Tailoring. EXOs have changed my life. I owned a pair of William Whiteley sidebent shears before, but EXOs are another level. The weight reflects the quality and they are always a joy to use. I wouldn’t buy any other shears. I will stick with William Whiteley for life.”
