Since 1760, William Whiteley & Sons have been designing and manufacturing beautifully hand-crafted industrial scissors in Sheffield, England; the birthplace of stainless steel.

Founded in 1760 and granted a Royal Warrant in 1840, today Whiteley’s is still a family-run firm. Many of our craftsmen’s skills have been handed down through generations, honed to the world-renowned standard we achieve today.

Whilst we’re proud of our heritage, we don’t rest on our laurels – we’ve also developed a reputation for never compromising on quality, and for sticking to our guns when now-defunct competitors cut prices and outsourced cheap products.

Two of our current management team are direct descendants of the original William Whiteley, and are the 11th and 12th generations of Whiteley to dedicate their lives to making scissors.

Today Whiteley’s produces over 250 different types of scissors, all uniquely designed to solve a specific cutting solution.

Many of our products were developed and designed by our current directors, who have worked with some of the world’s leading manufacturing companies to provide advanced cutting tools for ever-evolving advanced composite materials. From Kevlar in bullet-proof vests for the Ministry Of Defence, to carbon fibre in Formula 1 racing cars – and from the world’s finest bespoke tailored suits on Savile Row to the grass that grows around the holes on putting greens; we make scissors to cut it all!

Our latest achievement has been the development of our ground-breaking new EXO scissors.

These were launched through Kickstarter at the end of 2017 and smashed their original funding target. Developed with the assistance of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) at the University of Sheffield, these are now in production and are available for purchase in our store.
